Claim to Fame: Aside from Rene Descartes' "Discourse on the Method of Rightly Conducting the Reason and Seeking Truth in the Sciences", which was instrumental in the creation of the Western Scientific Method. He invented analytic geometry, a combination of Euclidean geometry and algebra.
